Producing a small but might collection of wines under the AOC Coteaux de Languedoc, Château L’Argentier produces refined, elegant and well-made reds exclusively from Mediterranean grape varieties grown on their estate. The vineyards at Château L’Argentier include Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan, which average more than 30 years of age. A single 5-acre plot of Carignan on the property was planted way back in 1935, offering a truly extraordinary opportunity to showcase the winemaking potential of such old vines planted to local grape varieties. Today, owners Elisabeth and Francois Jourdan continue to produce wines employing traditional methods, including harvest by hand, manual sorting and late harvest – all at extraordinarily tiny yields. From these clay/limestone soils, Chateau L’Argentier produces wines of enormous depth and concentration, offering aging potential that far exceeds what one might normally expect from the Languedoc – and indeed, continues to elevate the reputation and quality bar for wines from this region as a whole.
