FROM THE WINEMAKER:
The last born in the Viberti house, La Gemella (which means “the twin”) is a dedication to Maria: a twin at birth, wife of Giovanni Viberti, and a woman of humble origins who made a fundamental contribution to the growth of the company and her family. Maria, who was a cook for over 50 years at the family inn, Buon Padre, and a tenacious and stern mother, had a great passion for Barbera. In 2004, she observed how many of the most beautiful vineyards of Barbera had been substituted with Nebbiolo–a more profitable grape than Barbera, which for years, was considered a “wine of the poor” due to marked acidity and difficult drinkability. And so, together with the intuition of Claudio, the youngest and newest son in management of the family business, the planting of a new vineyard with a higher plant density was born. The goal, achieved over time, was a wine with great concentration, a particular amiability, and a nose of clear and intense, red fruit. The acidity that accompanies this concentration makes the wine not only interesting, but extremely elegant.

TASTING NOTE:
The expressive nose is smoky and bold with wild flowers, cherries and ripe berries—black and blue. The palate is rich and smooth, and echoes the nose with notes of cherry, raspberry, and blueberry compote. Noticeable but integrated tannins and good acidity. This Barbera nicely complements a diverse menu.
