Deep in the mountains in the south of France, we find the vineyards and cellars of Domaine Sainte Marie des Crozes – a family wine producer creating distinctive and characterful wines in one of the Languedoc’s best known regions, called Corbieres. At the very northern reaches of Corbieres, Domaine Sainte Marie des Crozes creates a range of delicious and accessible wines, showcasing the best of local tradition and winemaking heritage, with a splash of modern fun and charm. From its somewhat more playful and modern labels, to its production of a few wines from grapes less typical to this region of France, the particularly remote nature of this winemaking region makes it all the more impressive that this producer will never be accused of bowing to tradition or ignoring the outside world. Amidst the rugged natural beauty of Corbieres, these vineyards are planted on clay/limestone hillsides, surrounded by hedgerows of typical southern French garrigue (or aromatic herbs) growing wild next to the vineyards. This rustic and rugged landscape perfect conveys the unpretentious nature of the wines coaxed from this distinctive and history steeped terroir.
