“From Howell Mountain, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard looks beautiful as well, with more truffle, crushed rock, graphite and floral notes present in this dense, medium to full-bodied 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a beauty and certainly one of the top wines of the vintage. It should drink well for 20-25 years. The extraordinary quality produced by Korean owner Hi Sang Lee at Dana Estates has been well chronicled in this journal over recent vintages. The winery continues to fine-tune a brilliant quartet of Cabernet Sauvignons that have hallmarks including purity, exceptional balance, intensity and overall complexity and aging potential. Dana Estates certainly excelled with the 2014s. The biggest problem with 2014 in Napa is that it follows probably the greatest vintage I’ve tasted in the last 37 years there – 2013 – and that came after another great year, 2012. On its own, 2014 has plenty to offer, but I suspect there will be little fanfare, given all the attention its two predecessors justifiably merit.”
