LA CHABLISIENNE
Known as one of wine’s most underestimated treasures, Chablis is said to be one of the purest expressions of Chardonnay in the world. With vines planted on Kimmeridge clay, it is the soil that gives Chablis wines their extraordinary high-acid, mineral characteristics. Founded in 1923, La Chablisienne produces an extensive and renowned line-up of Chablis wines. Accounting for about 25 per cent of the region’s vineyard acreage, the stalwart producer is not just famous for the vast volume of wine it produces, but also for consistently setting new benchmarks for quality and style. By producing wines in small lots with meticulous care, La Chablisienne carries out production in a way much more typical of smaller, artisan producers.

2014 CHABLIS 1ER CRU “GRANDE CUVÉE”
Made from a blend of premier cru vineyards on both banks of the Serein River, the 2014 offering from La Chablisienne is a prime example of Chablis’ renowned regional characteristics. The bright aromas of crisp apple and citrus are focused and well-defined. This Grand Cuvée provides a brilliant fruit-to-acidity balance, leading to a long, tingling finish of flinty minerality.

WITH FOOD
The green tree fruit and mouth-watering acidity make this Chardonnay ideal for pairing with lighter fare, especially seafood, poultry, and cream-based dishes. The acidity will also cut through the richness in creamy cheeses or foie gras perfectly.

EXPERT OPINION
“The 2014 Chablis 1ER Cru Grande Cuvée has a crisp sea spray and cold flint-like bouquet that is well defined and nicely focused. The palate is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity, great depth and poise, and it gently fans out towards the finish with citrus peel, Granny Smith and gun-flint notes. I like the harmony here and the persistence. This comes recommended, especially for a mere 3 ten-dollar bills. Drink Date: 2017-2030.” –N. Martin, RobertParker.com
