MAS DES BRESSADES
Cyril Marès, owner of Mas des Bressades, is a 6th generation winemaker and part of a winemaking family with footprints around the globe. Here in the northeastern portion of the Costières des Nîmes, Mas des Bressades has become an important source of high quality wines at a variety of price levels. Walking a stylistic line between the decadence and complexity of fine Rhônes and the rustic charm of the Languedoc, the Costières de Nîmes offers wines with a unique style and profile. All of the wines produced here showcase Rhône varieties grown on the estate, with reds comprised mainly of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault and whites from Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier. With the Marès family’s deep roots in Bordeaux, these well-priced releases from Mas des Bressades reflect a level of pedigree, refinement, and elegance–which is unusual for wines from Costières de Nîmes.

2013 COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES “CUVÉE EXCELLENCE”
A family affair since 1964, the estate at Mas des Bressades in southern France specializes in bringing life to the best of what the Rhône Valley has to offer. Costières de Nîmes is a hot, sun baked region, producing ripe Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes. Sea breezes cool the vineyards at night, giving a refreshing streak of acidity to the wine perfect for pairing with a meal. Their Cuvée Excellence line of wines features a Rouge and a Blanc, with the red being a powerful, spicy cuvée of barrel aged Syrah.

WITH FOOD
Syrah is a grape famous for its ripe dark fruit and spicy, earthy notes, especially when grown in the south of France. While not strictly from Provence, the Cuvée Excellence Rouge has flavours of the famous Provencal herb blend layered between the fruit and the earthy notes. Rich foods with herbaceous, spicy characteristics will work wonderfully with this Syrah. Think Provencal-rubbed lamb, garlic sausage, or beef rib eye.

EXPERT OPINION
“The 2013 Costières de Nîmes Cuvee d’Excellence is a smokin’ value that’s made from almost all Syrah, yet has a splash of Grenache in the blend. Vinified in concrete tanks and aged all in barrel, it offers classic Syrah chocolatey fruit, licorice and roasted herbs characteristics in its medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, plump, ripe and textured personality. I don’t think it will make old bones, but it will put a smile on your face over the coming 3-4 years for sure.” –J. Dunnuck, RobertParker.com
