Southbrook Vineyards was Canada’s first Demeter Certified Biodynamic Winery and one the country’s most respected and important sources for top quality wines. Southbrook’s estate vineyards in Niagara were established in the early 2000’s, and the showcase winery (designed by the famous Canadian Architect, Jack Diamond) was built shortly there after. Today, Winemaker Ann Sperling oversees the production from this 150 acre estate property, crafting complex, sophisticated, and elegant wines showcasing this exceptional terroir. Owners Bill and Marilyn Redelmeier’s deep and abiding respect for sustainable agriculture guide their industry–leading philosophies around responsible stewardship of their land. This important estate is a benchmark example of the viticultural achievement possible in Canada’s leading wine producing region.
2016 SERIOUSLY COOL CHARDONNAY
Seriously cool? Absolutely. But also seriously delicious, seriously drinkable and seriously perfect for summer sipping. This unoaked Chardonnay from VQA star, Southbrook Vineyards, has everything you’re looking for in a quaffable and easy to enjoy summer white. Look for a core of brilliant citrus fruit with softer floral and tropical fruit notes around the edges. This really doesn’t have much to do with the seriously age-worthy, structured, and collectible higher-end whites produced at Southbrook; but rather, think of it as the perfect “gateway Chard”. A wine that will convert all those Chard-haters out there and have them banging down your door for a second glass.
Light, delicate, fragrant and perfectly refreshing examples of Chardonnay, like this one, are amongst the most versatile food wines you can find anywhere. This is a wine that will sing at the table next to fresh spring and summer salads, BBQ chicken, pork or seafood, but where it takes tasty to the next level is when paired up next to milder white fish. Try this wine with brightly flavoured fish tacos, or a piece of oven roasted halibut served with asparagus and hollandaise sauce–either one an excellent match!!
“Bright, Crisp, Clean Finish … You can hear the polite round of applause when you open this wine because it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The nose offers slight floral aromas but is driven by peach, pear and lemon. The flavours in this wine are Peach and Lemon in perfect harmony with bright crisp acidity and nice mineral on the finish. This will make a fantastic addition to patio weather (when it arrives) and should complement grilled or fried fish very well.” –Andre Proulx, AndreWineReview.ca
